Dock Associate

The Town Dock is a family owned, growing business, in the port of Galilee.  We are the largest supplier of calamari in the United States.  The Town Dock recently won two exciting awards, one for 8th Fastest Growing Private Company in 2016 and another for Overall Excellence in a Mid-Size Company in 2017.  Both presented by Providence Business News.

We are looking for a Dock Associate to join our team in the Narragansett plant!

Duties include:

  • Sorting fish
  • Unloading boats
  • Preparing orders
  • Loading/unloading trucks
  • Cleaning/Sanitizing equipment
  • Basic computer skills

Experience is helpful and bi-lingual Spanish is a plus.

Production Floor Expediter (Narragansett)

We’re looking to hire a candidate with good production experience who can help physically support and expedite our various needs on the production floor. The Town Dock recently won two exciting awards, one for 8th Fastest Growing Private Company in 2016 and another for Overall Excellence in a Mid-Size Company in 2017. Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide pallet jack and fork truck support for all Production lines, shipping and receiving, and freezer work
  • Hands on support for the physically demanding jobs of master packing and container loading
  • Hands on support for rebox and rebag lines
  • Freezer loading and unloading as well as organization and labeling
  • Assist with other operational departments as needed

Qualifications:

  • Basic skills with pallet jacks and fork trucks
  • Ability to lift and carry weights of 60 lbs consistently
  • Basic math skills
  • Written skills for record keeping

Lead Quality Control Technician

The Town Dock is currently seeking a Lead Quality Control Technician.

Our Quality Control team is responsible for ensuring that our products meet the standards set forth by the company as well as regulatory authorities.  We are looking to hire a person at the Narragansett facility to assist with these responsibilities.  This position reports to the Director of Quality Assurance and works with a team of others within the department.  This individual is responsible for monitoring company activities for Good Manufacturing practices, product quality assessments and labeling compliance. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Analyze and record on-line Production samples against FDA standards and Town Dock specifications
  • Accurately document and record data from Production and Quality Control samples to the Supplier Database
  • Monitor and report any deviations from the FDA Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Manage updates to the Town Dock Product Specifications as directed by the Quality Control management.
  • Organize, complete and record the QC sampling of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Conduct Pre-Op sanitation inspections.
  • Observe the proper storage and segregation of Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) products from non-MSC inventory and report compliance issues.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • General knowledge of Quality Control Procedures (net weight analysis, thawing and deglazing techniques, defect assessment, size/count assessment, visual and organoleptic quality assessment)
  • Associates degree in Culinary or Science curriculum or work equivalent
  • 2-3 years of experience in the food industry
  • Organized and detailed work habits
  • Basic computer skills
  • Physical abilities: Climb ladders to inspect equipment, lift 25 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
  • Flexibility in planning to accommodate the quick changes in seafood production
  • Ability to work long hours and occasional weekends
  • Basic communication in English, including reading and writing
  • Basic math skills

International Seafood Buyer

The Town Dock is currently seeking an International Seafood Buyer.

Our International Purchasing team is responsible for ensuring that the company has a sufficient supply of frozen products to meet the demands.  We are looking to hire a buyer to take ownership of the relationships with international vendors.  This position reports to the Director of International Purchasing & Sales and works with others within the department.  Through direct interaction with our global supply network, this position will negotiate and fulfill the frozen seafood requirements for the company.  Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Initiate, negotiate, and purchase all international seafood items for the company, in adherence to purchasing plan set by the Director of Purchasing.
  • Assist the Director in implementation of the strategic purchasing plan for the company.
  • Plan and execute the prospecting of new suppliers on a global basis, along with maintenance of existing supplier relationships.  Include all current and future frozen purchases for the company worldwide.
  • Develop and recommend product purchases, new vendors, and pricing strategies to produce the highest possible long-term profitability along with products that meet or exceed our quality specifications.
  • Ensure effective control of procurement, and provide effective ROI on purchasing initiatives.
  • Conduct market research and adjust purchasing plan to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry leaders and key strategic partners.
  • Travel internationally when needed in order to maintain relationships and network.
  • Attend international seafood trade shows (China Show, Boston Show, Brussels Show, Vigo Show, etc) and network for information from current and new seafood suppliers.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • A BA/BS in business, or related area or the equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in international procurement, seafood specifically is preferred.
  • Previous global procurement for customers in foodservice, retail, broadliner categories, or restaurant chains.
  • PC proficiency including advanced competencies in MS Office products and demonstrated ability to produce presentations, spreadsheets, graphs, and charts.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel overseas and network with suppliers at shows, plant visits, and networking events.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Skill in establishing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think critically by using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Translate business process into measurable outcomes
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally to seafood shows, processing plants and vendors several times per year.
  • A strong belief and commitment to continuous learning and improvement, positive attitude, teamwork, and ethical behavior.
  • Internally motivated to complete objectives on time and on budget
